Gaelic 101, Papanach is Scott's gaelic for Catholic. Everyone got that? Good, there may or may not be a quiz.
Why is this little blurb called 'Papanach?' I'm glad you asked. It's because I am a Catholic, of the Roman variety to be specific. What soes that have to do with this rant? Because my classes are seriously aggravating the religious part of me.
In our astronomy class, there was an exercise where we had to prove that the world was round, rotating and orbiting without using astronomy. There was also a little group called the Inquisition. That's right, they represented religion. To make a long story short a lot of the class was spent meeting half way with the 'Inquisition' to make a sort of intelligent design theory. Guess what? Very openly mocked.
Oh yeah, don't even bring up being a conservative in a philosophy class. That is unless you enjoy having your head verbally bitten off by pro-choice feminazis. Seriously, not fun. That class scares the crap out of me.
Is there any room for religion in the academic world? Or is this a place where all theories and ways of thinking are accepted, except if they have anything to do with god.
Oh yes, if this offends you, bite me.

Sounds like it sucks. Being the bull-headed, outspoken person I am I would just been like "YEAH... SO. ;_;"
ReplyDeleteBut I'm a loser like that. >_<
I guess you'll just have to find your way through it? The world is full of unnaccepting dipshits. Which is a shame, because people like you and I try so hard to be accepting - you don't see us cramming our beliefs down their throats. Tccch.
